Character Artist

TT Fusion, a division of Traveller’s Tales are seeking to recruit a Character Artist in the Art team in Wilmslow.  This is a full time, permanent mid-level position, however we would also welcome senior applications.

Main Responsibilities:

LEGO Characters

  • The design and creation of LEGO characters as required / specified by Game and/or Level Director.
  • The design and creation of LEGO creatures where the main elements are unique moulded elements rather than a LEGO model constructed from standard elements.
  • The design and creation of 2D texture decals used on characters and creatures.
  • Setup of ‘Super Character’ based assets which include game side:
    • Moulded hat/hair
    • Unique moulded head elements
    • Unique moulded Body Attachments, such as Armour, Wings and Backpacks
    • Chest/back decals
    • Arm, hip and leg decals where applicable
    • Character definition and setup using in-house Character Animation Tool (CAT)
    • Keep assigned tasks organised and up to date with progress.
    • Identify and enter relevant issues into JIRA, ensuring sufficient information is given.
  • Setup of ‘Super Character’ based assets which include Maya side:
    • Initial set up of the of Animation Reference (AR) character versions as used by the Animation Team
  • Optimisation of LEGO characters and creatures to support each game platform.
  • Working with Animators/rigging team to ensure that any geometry works in conjunction with the required rig (as set up by the rigging team) or animation.  Liaising with the rigging team to ensure that the completed art work looks like it should, is skinned correctly and works with the animation sets.

General

  • Creating approval sheets for external submission to both LEGO and any additional licence holders.
  • Providing assets for publishing / marketing where cross conversion may be required.
  • Providing feedback on tools and working with the programming department to ensure tools provided are as accessible and productive as possible.
  • Undertake relevant on-the-job training where required and keep up-to-date with industry advancements and technologies.
  • Provide coaching to Character Artist and Junior Character Artist where appropriate and with direction from Lead Character Artist.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent level qualification.
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills.
  • Good working knowledge and proficiency in Maya, Z-brush, Mudbox and Photoshop.

Senior Character Artist

We are looking to recruit a Senior Character Artist for our Character Art team and this will be a full time, permanent position based at our Knutsford studio.

Main responsibilities:

  • Support the Lead and Associate Lead in attaining a high standard of work, both technically and creatively.
  • The design and creation of Character Art to a high standard as directed by the Lead.
  • Ensure project tasks are organised and managed effectively as directed by the Lead.
  • Providing feedback on tools and working with the programming department to ensure tools provided are as accessible and productive as possible.

Animators - 6 month FTC

Senior Technical Artist

Our multi-award-winning studio is looking for a Technical Artist to join the Core Technology team in Wilmslow. The role will focus on working closely with the Creative departments on all projects, developing and streamlining the Maya-based Art and Animation production pipelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure high quality and efficiency of Art asset production through the entire Art pipeline.
  • Liaise with all creative departments, including Art, Animation and Audio to ensure their production pipelines are efficient and pleasant to use.
  • Develop scripts for 3rd party software (such as Maya or Photoshop) as well as for in-house tools.

Requirements:

  • A passion for the end-user experience of the software and scripts they will help to develop.
  • Great communication skills, especially communicating with non-technical artists.
  • Fluency in one or more 3D production packages (Maya ideally, though Max or Softimage would do as well).
  • Experience with graphics tools in general, such as Photoshop and zBrush.
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, MEL), especially in the context of computer graphics.

Junior VFX Artists - 6 month FTC

We are looking to recruit 3 Junior VFX Artists on 6 month fixed term contracts, to work on the development of high profile projects across all platforms. This is a great opportunity for inspired effects artists to create and implement visual effects for cut scenes, environments and characters. These positions are based in Wilmslow.

Simulation Programmer

We're seeking a talented and enthusiastic programmer to join our Simulation team, who research and develop the novel and cross platform Physics, A.I., Vehicle, I.K and Animation technologies that will power the next wave of TT adventures. This role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to work on a variety of system while also focusing on a particular discipline of interest.

We are ideally looking for a mid-level programmer, however we will consider applications from strong junior programmers.

The ideal candidates will have:

  • A good degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics or related subject.
  • Demonstrably fluent in Object Oriented  C++ with strong debugging and documentation skills.
  • A passion for games and solving the technical problems they present.
  • Strong maths skills (linear algebra, trigonometry, 3d geometry, quaternions).
  • A highly motivated team-player with the ability to dive in, understand code and learn quickly.
  • Knowledge and experience with either Vehicle simulation/ Physics engines / AI algorithms and middleware / Procedural Animation or IK systems.

Fixed Term QA Testers

TT Fusion, a division of Traveller’s Tales, are looking for QA Testers to join the QA team based at our Wilmslow studio. These are Fixed Term Contract roles with immediate starts, running until the 24th February 2017.

The ideal candidates should have:

  • A thorough knowledge of videogames across multiple platforms.
  • A good eye for detail.
  • Natural curiosity and an enthusiasm for finding bugs.
  • Be happy working individually or as part of a team.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Proficient writing skills.

Shift work (including weekends) and overtime will be required.  The shift pattern is 2 weeks on the early shift, 07:00-15:30, and then 2 weeks on the late shift, 14:30-23:00 and 1 week on the night shift, 22:45-07:15.

Whilst previous experience or having a relevant degree is ideal, we are open to accepting applications from candidates with no previous experience/qualifications but they must be able to demonstrate a real passion and interest in gaming and have a natural curiosity to find bugs!

Senior VFX Artist

Junior / Mid Level Game Technology Programmer - 12 month FTC

We are looking for a junior / mid level programmer to join our Game Technology team in Wilmslow on a 12 month fixed term contract.  The Game Technology team is part of the Engine Room Department, and is responsible for creating and maintaining the nuts and bolts that glue our award winning games together.

You will be working with every platform conceivable, from hand-held devices, through desktop computers to consoles both current and next generation.  Because of this, you will be using a wide variety of development environments and programming languages and tackling technical challenges of every sort. No day will be the same, and you won't be bored!

During your day you will be working with all the internal development departments in Traveller's Tales: the game programmers, the low level renderer programmers, the artists and designers who produce the amazing content that makes our games alive, the production team who manage the process and the publishers who get our games out to the public.  Finally, but not least, you will liase with the platform holders to resolve technical challenges and overcome any submission problems that come with the fast pace of the console and hand held market.

You will be expected to get involved with all aspects of the Traveller's Tales code base to ensure each programming department works effectively together.  For that reason, you will need to have experience with working with large code bases and be able to understand other people's code quickly. Particular areas of expertise would be helpful in rendering, tools, audio, networking and online, and resource management.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A good degree in Computer Science, Math or Physics or related subject (2.i or above) or equivalent experience.
  • Fluent in C++ and object oriented programming.
  • A structured approach to programming with the desire to write clean, well commented, documented and maintainable code.
  • A positive can do attitude coupled with the ability to get things done.

A strong candidate will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience programming consoles at a low-level on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.
  • Understanding of machine architecture.
  • Strong 3D math skills.
  • Strong debugging skills in a multi-threaded / multi-core environment.
  • The ability to analyse and optimise algorithms for efficiency.

Italian QA Localisation Tester

We are currently looking to recruit an Italian QA Localisation Tester to join our QA team in Maidenhead.  

Main Responsibilities:

•  Translation of in-game text from English to Italian using our in-house translation system.
•  Translation of platform specific compliance messages using strict terminology.
•  Testing of in-game text on multiple platforms and bug reporting as necessary.
•  Regression and confirmation of previously raised issues.
•  Audio verification of Italian voiceover and testing in-game. 
•  Analysis and implementation of feedback from external teams.
•  Translation of marketing text and assisting Production with any Italian queries. 

The successful applicant would have the following:

•  Excellent English to Italian translation ability.  A relevant qualification or experience in a similar translation/localisation role would be desired.

Senior Render Tech Programmer

Traveller's Tales are looking for a 'Senior Render Programmer' to join our Render-Tech team in Wilmslow. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a highly successful and creative team, working on cutting edge rendering techniques supporting the development of multiple AAA titles across a wide range of platforms from mobile to next-gen. Having an in depth knowledge of cutting edge graphics techniques the ideal candidate will be able to take a lead role in the development of our render technology while working closely with our art teams. They would also be expected to provide support to junior team members generally taking an active role in leading the evolution of our technology.

Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of C/C++ and HLSL, GLSL or Cg.
  • Excellent debugging skills.
  • Experience of either console, DirectX 11 or OpenGL development.
  • Experience of mobile development a bonus.
  • Has been involved in the start-to-finish development of key render technologies for at least 1 AAA game.
  • Experience with performance analysis, profiling tools, and optimisation techniques including CPU, GPU and shaders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, plus the ability to communicate ideas with other disciplines.
  • Familiarity with CPU architectures and multithreaded programming.
  • Familiarity with current and cutting edge rendering techniques.

Junior Gameplay Programmer

Mid/Senior Environment Artists

(Frontline mechanics development) is a team of skilled and dedicated programmers who work closely with all the creative departments to develop high quality gameplay mechanics.
