Junior VFX Artist

We are currently looking to recruit a Junior VFX Artist on a full time, permanent basis in our Art team in Knutsford.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating visual effects for the game (levels and cutscenes) compliant with game design and vision.
  • Creation of effects using packages provided (Maya and Photoshop).
  • Creation of particles using 2D textures (Photoshop) and in-house editors (particle/LED).
  • Using Maya Fluid systems to create animating textures when required.
  • Creation of bespoke and generic scenery effects (smoke/fire etc).
  • Creation of bespoke character effects (shields/suits/hits/footsteps etc).
  • Placement of static effects in levels..
  • Creation of game specific VFX (explosions) placement generally by code.
  • Creation (sometimes placement) of cutscene specific VFX (explosions etc) placement generally by animation.
  • Working closely with environment artists on effects heavy levels to balance frame-rate.
  • Liaise with Construction Artists with regards to placing and triggering gameplay-specific VFX.
  • Ensuring work/level hits all memory and frame rate guides/restrictions.
  • Understanding that changes and amendments are part of the pipeline.
  • Attend regular reviews of work (and present all concept and ref if used).
  • Other tasks as required.
  • Work with Art Leads and other artists to ensure consistency between vision and implementation of effects.
  • Undertake relevant on-the-job training where required and keep up-to-date with industry advancements and technologies.

Environment Artists

We are currently looking to recruit a number of fixed term Environment Artists and one permanent Environment Artist into the Art team based in Knutsford.

The main responsibilities consist of:

  • Responsible for creating in-game environments compliant with the game design, both technically and aesthetically.
  • Creating 3D models using packages provided (Maya, Z-Brush and Photoshop).
  • Creating and applying 2D textures – create and apply texture maps to the specification set by the Lead Artist.
  • Lighting environments – ability to apply good lighting principles to all artistic output.
  • Creating materials/shaders – Diff/Spec/Norm maps etc. and being responsible for the final look.
  • Setup of dynamic lighting, post effects and basic scene animation via in-house editors.
  • Ensuring work/level hits all memory and frame rate guides/restrictions – optimisations/LODs etc.
  • Understanding that changes and amendments are part of the pipeline.
  • Attend regular reviews of their work (and present all concept and ref used).
  • Constructively feedback any concerns of design impact on level/work.
  • Other tasks as required.
  • Work with Art Leads and other artists to ensure consistency between vision and implementation of environment assets.
  • Contributing original ideas towards all aspects of the project.

Character Artists

We are looking to recruit two Character Artists on a full time, permanent basis into our LEGO Integration team at our Knutsford studio.

Main responsibilities:

  • Identify and enter relevant issues into JIRA, ensuring sufficient information is given.
  • The design and creation of LEGO characters as required / specified by the Lead Character Artist.
  • The design and creation of LEGO creatures where the main elements are unique moulded elements rather than a LEGO model constructed from standard elements.
  • The design and creation of 2D texture decals used on characters and creatures.
  • Setup of Super Character based assets which include game side:
  • Moulded hat/hair
  • Unique moulded head elements
  • Unique moulded Body Attachments, such as Armour, Wings and Backpacks
  • Chest/back decals
  • Arm, hip and leg decals where applicable
  • Character definition and setup using in-house Character Animation Tool (CAT)
  • Setup of Super Character based assets which include Maya side:
  • Creation and maintenance of Animation Reference (AR) character versions as used by the Animation Team
  • Optimisation of LEGO characters and creatures to support each game platform
  • Working with Animators to ensure their needs are met during the rigging process

General:

  • Creating approval sheets for internal and external review.
  • Creating assets for publishing / marketing where cross conversion may be required.
  • Setup and maintain Wiki documentation within the Character Artist discipline.
  • Providing feedback on tools and working with the programming department to ensure tools provided are as accessible and productive as possible.
  • Undertake relevant on-the-job training where required and keep up-to-date with industry advancements and technologies.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Good artistic eye for quality and ability to ensure consistency in results.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent level qualification.
  • Very good understanding and use of in-house tools and software used in development.

Cinematic Production Assistant - 9 month FTC

Traveller's Tales are looking for an experienced Cinematic Production Assistant to join our Cinematics team on a 9 month fixed term contract. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a highly successful and creative Cinematics Animation team.

We are looking for highly self-motivated applicants who can confidently support the Production Manager, Cinematic Directors and the wider Animation team. The ability to plan and schedule your own time is essential.

Ideal candidate for the role would have:

Core Tech Programmer

We are currently looking to recruit a 'Core Technology Programmer' to join our Technology team in Wilmslow.

This role offers a wide range of responsibilities and would be a great fit for a creative individual with a strong desire to learn and with a keen interest in latest technology trends.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of our cross platform libraries, helping to keep our games running across a large number of current and future platforms including mobile, handheld, desktop and console.
  • Help build the features of our next-gen rendering engine, conducting any and all relevant research while working in close collaboration with our content teams, allowing us to compete with the best visuals in the industry.
  • Work to further develop our core engine libraries, providing support to the wider organisation, promoting efficient, stable and re-usable solutions.
  • Work to improve the productivity of our users and the quality of our code and games.

Requirements:

  • A good degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics or a related subject.
  • A solid foundation in C++ or C.
  • Experience of DirectX, OpenGL, or some other rendering API.
  • Exposure to one of HLSL. GLSL, Cg.
  • An awareness of the challenges of cross platform development.
  • Experience of next gen consoles or mobile development would be a bonus.

Render Tech Programmer

Traveller's Tales are looking for a 'Render Programmer' to join our Render-Tech team in Wilmslow. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a highly successful and creative team, working on cutting edge rendering techniques supporting the development of multiple AAA titles across a wide range of platforms from mobile to next-gen. Having an in depth knowledge of cutting edge graphics techniques the ideal candidate will be able to take a lead role in the development of our render technology while working closely with our art teams. They would also be expected to provide support to junior team members generally taking an active role in leading the evolution of our technology.

Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of C/C++ and HLSL, GLSL or Cg.
  • Excellent debugging skills.
  • Experience of either console, DirectX 11 or OpenGL development.
  • Experience of mobile development a bonus.
  • Has been involved in the start-to-finish development of key render technologies for at least 1 AAA game.
  • Experience with performance analysis, profiling tools, and optimisation techniques including CPU, GPU and shaders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, plus the ability to communicate ideas with other disciplines.
  • Familiarity with CPU architectures and multithreaded programming.
  • Familiarity with current and cutting edge rendering techniques.
  • Excellent software design skills, knowledge of algorithms, data structures, software architectures and development methods.
  • Experience of mentoring and coaching junior engineers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent professional experience.

Junior LEGO Model Technical Artist - 6 month FTC

We are looking for a Junior LEGO Model Technical Artist with a keen interest in Tt Games LEGO Console Games.  This is an opportunity to become part of the team responsible for bespoke LEGO Models as seen throughout our multi award winning published titles.  This is an initial 6 month fixed term contract and will be based at our Knutsford studio.

You will join the LEGO Models team and work together with Level Designers and LEGO Model Designers and assist in the setup of LEGO models such as creatures and vehicles for in-game use, as well as props of all sizes as used by the Cinematic and wider LEGO Construction teams.

As a Junior LEGO Model Technical Artist, you will be responsible for:

  • In-game setup of LEGO models as required/specified by Lead LEGO Model Artist.
  • Setup/Rigging of LEGO models and vehicles to fit game engine physics requirements as required/specified by Lead LEGO Model Artist.
  • The design and creation of decals/printed elements adhering to specific LEGO Co. design style/direction.
  • Setup of high detail models and vehicles for use in cut-scenes.
  • Optimisation of models and vehicles to work across multiple platforms.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Input on the creation of new and bespoke LEGO elements.
  • Modelling LEGO elements for inclusion in the TT LEGO Parts Library.
  • Creation of approval materials for submission to LEGO Company and any additional stake holders.
  • Help maintain Wiki documentation within LEGO Models discipline.

Simulation Programmer

We're seeking a talented and enthusiastic programmer to join our Simulation team, who research and develop the novel and cross platform Physics, A.I., Vehicle, I.K and Animation technologies that will power the next wave of TT adventures. This role offers a rare and exciting opportunity to work on a variety of system while also focusing on a particular discipline of interest.

We are ideally looking for a mid-level programmer, however we will consider applications from strong junior programmers.

The ideal candidates will have:

  • A good degree in Computer Science, Maths, Physics or related subject.
  • Demonstrably fluent in Object Oriented  C++ with strong debugging and documentation skills.
  • A passion for games and solving the technical problems they present.
  • Strong maths skills (linear algebra, trigonometry, 3d geometry, quaternions).
  • A highly motivated team-player with the ability to dive in, understand code and learn quickly.
  • Knowledge and experience with either Vehicle simulation/ Physics engines / AI algorithms and middleware / Procedural Animation or IK systems.

Fixed Term QA Testers

TT Fusion, a division of Traveller’s Tales, are looking for QA Testers to join the QA team based at our Wilmslow studio. These are Fixed Term Contract roles with immediate starts, running until the 24th February 2017.

The ideal candidates should have:

  • A thorough knowledge of videogames across multiple platforms.
  • A good eye for detail.
  • Natural curiosity and an enthusiasm for finding bugs.
  • Be happy working individually or as part of a team.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Proficient writing skills.

Shift work (including weekends) and overtime will be required.  The shift pattern is 2 weeks on the early shift, 07:00-15:30, and then 2 weeks on the late shift, 14:30-23:00 and 1 week on the night shift, 22:45-07:15.

Whilst previous experience or having a relevant degree is ideal, we are open to accepting applications from candidates with no previous experience/qualifications but they must be able to demonstrate a real passion and interest in gaming and have a natural curiosity to find bugs!

Italian QA Localisation Tester

We are currently looking to recruit an Italian QA Localisation Tester to join our QA team in Maidenhead.  

Main Responsibilities:

•  Translation of in-game text from English to Italian using our in-house translation system.
•  Translation of platform specific compliance messages using strict terminology.
•  Testing of in-game text on multiple platforms and bug reporting as necessary.
•  Regression and confirmation of previously raised issues.
•  Audio verification of Italian voiceover and testing in-game. 
•  Analysis and implementation of feedback from external teams.
•  Translation of marketing text and assisting Production with any Italian queries. 

The successful applicant would have the following:

•  Excellent English to Italian translation ability.  A relevant qualification or experience in a similar translation/localisation role would be desired.
•  A keen interest in video games, with knowledge of the latest platforms.  Experience with LEGO games would be a bonus. 
•  Strong level of attention to detail.
•  Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
•  Excellent communication skills.
•  Knowledge of MS Office applications.
