Build Engineer

The tech team are looking for a Build Engineer and this position will be based in Wilmslow. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a highly successful and creative team supporting the development of multiple AAA titles across a wide range of platforms from mobile to next-gen. Working closely with multiple departments and game teams, supporting and further developing our internal build and test automation services, this is an opportunity to play a key role in the ongoing success of TT Games.

The ideal candidate would have:

  • 2+ year’s relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of scripting and programming languages (Python / C# / Batch files).
  • A basic working knowledge of C++.
  • Knowledge of source control management software and build automation frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Windows and/or Mac OSX.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Be highly motivated, with a passion for games.

Please note that prior games industry experience is not a requirement for this role.

Animators - 6 month FTC

Head of Mobile

We are seeking to recruit a Head of Mobile to be based in our Wilmslow Studio.  This is a key, senior management position aimed at expanding and fully developing our current mobile offering, playing a critical role in growing the company’s mobile business.  The Head of Mobile will be a member of the leadership team driving the overall mobile games business as well as taking publishing and general management responsibility for all TT mobile titles. 

Responsible for establishing practices and processes, driving innovation, and contributing to the overall success of the business, the ideal candidate for this role will have launched and operated successful mobile titles, and have extensive experience in the free to play space, from concept stage to live operations. 

Main Responsibilities:

Mobile

  • To establish mobile strategy, and deliver top quality mobile games.
  • Responsibility for free to play mobile games including managing cross-disciplinary teams of both direct and indirect reports.
  • Meet or exceed revenue and operating income goals by owning game P&L, go-to-market strategy, and live management.
  • Establish industry-leading best practices and processes for operating and managing free to play mobile games as a service.
  • Assist in growing TT’s mobile games business more broadly, including build out of the team as required by growth
  • Oversee the creative, monetisation and technical development of the mobile games.

Management

  • Working closely with and supporting the Studio Manager in the overall development of the studio’s infrastructure, organisation and procedures.
  • Helping to develop policies, procedures and templates for the studio.
  • Working with other Heads of Department to constantly evaluate and improve the company’s goals and overall studio performance.
  • Full range of people management responsibility including resource planning, performance management and ensuring all employee relations matters are dealt with in line with Company policies and procedures and in liaison with Human Resources.

Skills & Experience required:

  • Passion for gaming, especially on mobile.
  • Demonstrable success (top grossing) in the mobile, freemium market across multiple titles.
  • Demonstrable experience of establishing a successful mobile strategy.
  • Strong familiarity with iOS, Android and Facebook games marketplaces, trends and best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of micro-transaction based business models and managing product-level P&Ls.
  • Experience in product management with direct experience managing cross-disciplinary game teams and owning oversight of game P&L and budgets.

Tools: Programmer/Junior

We are seeking to recruit a couple of Tools Programmers to join the team developing technology at the core of all TT Games productions, from AAA games on every major console and handheld device to our BAFTA award-winning TV shows, broadcast on major networks around the world.

The successful candidate will play a significant part in shaping the way art, animation and designs are produced across new projects, as well as keeping our technology up to date with the state of the art in the industry.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • A good degree in Computer Science, Maths or Physics or related subject (2.i or above), or equivalent experience
  • Fluent in C++
  • Experience of Direct X, OpenGL or similar graphics APIs
  • Experience of writing user interfaces using one or more common UI libraries (Win32 GDI/wxWindows/Qt/...)
  • Ability to interact with non-technical disciplines (such as artists and designers), understand their needs, deliver solutions they find intuitive and helpful
  • A real desire to make users' day-to-day work easier, simpler and more productive

A strong candidate will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience of writing plugins for common 3D and 2D packages (Autodesk Maya and Adobe Photoshop preferably)
  • A confident grasp of the mathematics involved in CG rendering and animation
  • The ability to analyse and optimise algorithms for efficiency
  • Experience developing products for one or more non-PC gaming devices

Junior Game Technology Programmer - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

We are looking for a junior programmer to join our Game Technology team on a 12 month fixed term contract.  The Game Technology team is part of the Engine Room Department, and is responsible for creating and maintaining the nuts and bolts that glue our award winning games together.

You will be working with every platform conceivable, from hand-held devices, through desktop computers to consoles both current and next generation.  Because of this, you will be using a wide variety of development environments and programming languages and tackling technical challenges of every sort.  No day will be the same, and you won't be bored!

During your day you will be working with all the internal development departments in Traveller's Tales: the game programmers, the low level renderer programmers, the artists and designers who produce the amazing content that makes our games alive, the production team who manage the process and the publishers who get our games out to the public.  Finally, but not least, you will liase with the platform holders to resolve technical challenges and overcome any submission problems that come with the fast pace of the console and hand held market.s

You will be expected to get involved with all aspects of the Traveller's Tales code base to ensure each programming department works effectively together.  For that reason, you will need to have experience with working with large code bases and be able to understand other people's code quickly.  Particular areas of expertise would be helpful in rendering, tools, audio, networking and online, and resource management.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A good degree in Computer Science, Math or Physics or related subject (2.i or above) or equivalent experience.
  • Fluent in C++ and object oriented programming.
  • A structured approach to programming with the desire to write clean, well commented, documented and maintainable code.
  • A positive can do attitude coupled with the ability to get things done.

A strong candidate will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience programming consoles at a low-level on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.
  • Understanding of machine architecture.
  • Strong 3D math skills.
  • Strong debugging skills in a multi-threaded / multi-core environment.
  • The ability to analyse and optimise algorithms for efficiency.
  • Knowledge of Python, SQL, Java.

Senior Render Tech Programmer

Traveller's Tales are looking for a 'Senior Render Programmer' to join our Render-Tech team in Wilmslow. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within a highly successful and creative team, working on cutting edge rendering techniques supporting the development of multiple AAA titles across a wide range of platforms from mobile to next-gen. Having an in depth knowledge of cutting edge graphics techniques the ideal candidate will be able to take a lead role in the development of our render technology while working closely with our art teams. They would also be expected to provide support to junior team members generally taking an active role in leading the evolution of our technology.

Requirements:

  • Expert knowledge of C/C++ and HLSL, GLSL or Cg.
  • Excellent debugging skills.
  • Experience of either console, DirectX 11 or OpenGL development.
  • Experience of mobile development a bonus.
  • Has been involved in the start-to-finish development of key render technologies for at least 1 AAA game.
  • Experience with performance analysis, profiling tools, and optimisation techniques including CPU, GPU and shaders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, plus the ability to communicate ideas with other disciplines.
  • Familiarity with CPU architectures and multithreaded programming.
  • Familiarity with current and cutting edge rendering techniques.
  • Excellent software design skills, knowledge of algorithms, data structures, software architectures and development methods.
  • Experience of mentoring and coaching junior engineers.

Junior Programmer / Programmer - Gameplay

Mid/Senior Environment Artists

We are currently looking to recruit a number of Environment Artists on either a permanent or contract basis at or Knutsford Studio.  We are looking for mid level to senior artists who have at least 2+ years industry experience.

The main responsibilities consist of:

  • Responsible for creating in-game environments compliant with the game design, both technically and aesthetically.
  • Creating 3D models using packages provided (Maya, Z-Brush and Photoshop).
  • Creating and applying 2D textures – create and apply texture maps to the specification set by the Lead Artist.
  • Lighting environments – ability to apply good lighting principles to all artistic output.
  • Creating materials/shaders – Diff/Spec/Norm maps etc. and being responsible for the final look.
  • Setup of dynamic lighting, post effects and basic scene animation via in-house editors.
  • Ensuring work/level hits all memory and frame rate guides/restrictions – optimisations/LODs etc.
  • Understanding that changes and amendments are part of the pipeline.
  • Attend regular reviews of their work (and present all concept and ref used).
  • Constructively feedback any concerns of design impact on level/work.
  • Other tasks as required.
  • Work with Art Leads and other artists to ensure consistency between vision and implementation of environment assets.
  • Contributing original ideas towards all aspects of the project.
  • Undertake relevant on-the-job training where required and keep up-to-date with industry advancements and technologies.

Danish QA Localisation Tester

We are currently looking to recruit a Danish QA Localisation Tester to join our QA team in Maidenhead.  

Main Responsibilities:

•  Translation of in-game text from English to Danish using our in-house translation system.
•  Translation of platform specific compliance messages using strict terminology.
•  Testing of in-game text on multiple platforms and bug reporting as necessary.
•  Regression and confirmation of previously raised issues.
•  Audio verification of Danish voiceover and testing in-game. 
•  Analysis and implementation of feedback from external teams.
•  Translation of marketing text and assisting Production with any Danish queries. 

The successful applicant would have the following:

•  Excellent English to Danish translation ability.  A relevant qualification or experience in a similar translation/localisation role would be desired.
•  A keen interest in video games, with knowledge of the latest platforms.  Experience with LEGO games would be a bonus. 
•  Strong level of attention to detail.
•  Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
•  Excellent communication skills.
